Kjeld van Bommel, TNO, The Netherlands
Kjeld van Bommel has been working for TNO, the Netherlands’ biggest contract research organization, since 2006. In 2010 he helped start the TNO activities in the area of 3D food printing, an area which has been his focus since.
Over the years the TNO 3D printing team has grown to be world leading in this field, with successful collaborations with multinationals such as Barilla, Mondelēz, and Katjes leading to the a series of 3D printed food products making it to the market.
As a senior consultant Kjeld is involved in the setting up of new collaborations, definition of research projects, roadmap development, and the creation of new technologies and applications related to 3D food, and more recently pharma printing.
Kjeld obtained both his MSc and PhD degree in organic chemistry from the university of Twente, the Netherlands. Prior to working for TNO he worked as a JISTEC research fellow in Japan, and as a research scientist for Biomade Technology in the Netherlands.
