Talk Title: Spreading information and developing trust in social networks to accelerate diffusion of innovations
Professor of Theoretical Sociology at the Department of Sociology / ICS, Utrecht University and affiliated with the UU Strategic Theme Institutions for Open Societies and the Centre for Complex Systems Studies, Utrecht University. His research focuses on how social networks affect trust, cooperation, and other human behaviors. Buskens has developed several theoretical models on such effects of social networks as well as on the dynamics of social networks itself. In addition, he did extensive experimental research on behavior of subjects in social dilemma problems. His papers have been published in top sociological and interdisciplinary journals including the American Journal of Sociology, Social Networks, and Nature Scientific Reports. He is co-applicant on several recently granted NWO projects on related topics such as accelerating behavior towards the energy transition and behavioral network effects on epidemics. He is the secretary of the European Academy of Sociology.
