Masha Niv

The Niv lab studies molecular recognition of taste. Molecular modelling and chemoinformatics are combined with psycophysics and cell-based techniques to unravel the complex interplay of chemical structure and taste signalling. Research directions include machine learning applications to tastants, identification of novel ligands of bitter compounds, and rational design of selective modulators of taste receptors. Currently the Niv team is studying the prevalence, severity and mechanism of taste loss in COVID-19 patients.

Prof. Niv is co-initiator of the GCCR Global Consortium for Chemosensory Research, serves on Board of Directors of Israel Institute for Advanced Studies and is the Vice Dean for Research of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment.
