The 2012 EFFoST Annual Meeting will take place at the conference centre, Le Corum, situated in the centre of Montpellier.
Montpellier houses more than 20 (international) research centers and universities (with over 60000 students and over 10000 researchers), many of them active in the full agro-food sector with the joint ambition to strive for a sustainable production with low environmental impact and increased food security for all.
Montpellier research community is a European leading research actor in both highly specialized research in a high number of related fields, and integrated approach for agro-food systems.
The research centers are well connected to the developing countries, upcoming markets and Mediterranean sister organizations, via recognized research organisms such as CIRAD (Agricultural Research Centre for Development), INRA (French National Institute for Agricultural Research), IRD (Institute of European Research for Development), etc. Recently, the CGIAR (Consultative Group on International Agricultural research), representing 8000 researchers operating worldwide, has chosen Montpellier as headquarter. In addition UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has just established the chair on sustainable food in Montpellier.
Montpellier has built strong networks in Europe and all over the world with colleagues active in agro-food related areas. The outcome of their joint activities will be shared at the conference.
